A workers’ union for the Lufthansa ground crew will go on strike this Wednesday. This could impact over 100,000 travelers. This strike follows a recent strike by security screening employees that caused major disruptions at large German airports. These strikes in the aviation industry are causing concerns about their impact on travel plans and passenger services.
As February begins, the German aviation industry is facing a challenging start to the year. Whether due to bad weather or strikes, travel disruptions have been a recurring issue. With the recent announcement from the Verdi Union, it seems these difficulties will continue for travelers in the near future.
Lufthansa is preparing for significant disruptions to its operations this Wednesday. According to flight schedule data, Lufthansa has a total of 161,485 seats available on all its scheduled flights for that day. In discussions with Simple Flying, the airline has indicated that over 100,000 passengers are likely to be affected, pointing to a considerable impact on a significant number of flights.
Verdi has announced that the warning strike is scheduled to commence at 04:00 on Wednesday and conclude at 07:10 on Thursday. Approximately 25,000 Lufthansa ground employees based in Frankfurt, Munich, Hamburg, Berlin, and Düsseldorf have been directed to participate in this 27-hour walkout.
The impact of the strike extends beyond just the Lufthansa airline. Employees from Lufthansa Technik, Lufthansa Cargo, and Lufthansa Engineering & Operational Services will also be participating in the strike action.
